Les virus Influenza A et B appartiennent à la famille des Orthomyxoviridae. Ce sont des virus à ARN monocaténaire, segmenté et à polarité négative. Influenza A infecte les humains, les oiseaux et les mammifères (source des pandémies). Et influenza B est presque exclusivement humaine et provoque des épidémies saisonnières plus localisées.
